day 9: mas clases and movies
blogging before the end of the night only means one thing: it’s gonna be a fun night.
fun fact about the manna cars: during rainy season (like it is now), it takes days for a wet shirt to dry. ergo, car full of 13 wet people = smelly car for the next week. eau de micro has become of the favorite scents of the volunteers to kick off the day.
i spent all morning planning class, reading, and hanging out with the summer kids. after lunch, we went to el farito where i tagged on to andrew and lindsey’s literacy group and helped three kiddos learn how to read- nicans always need a lot of help with V vs B so that was amusing to ask them which was correct.
math was with ulises, armando, and christian (pronounced kris-tee-an) was a blast, for sure. we are still doing subtraction and number family groups, but today i didn’t struggle at all (yes!) with my spanish. i was paired up ulises and we rocked the math worksheet and the color-by-numbers page i made (instead of numbers there were subtraction problems… so creative, i know).
we kicked it for a while playing hangman with dayana while the PD’s decided to cancel beginner’s english class due to rain. we came back to the house and cleaned up, ate, and prepped for the night… wait for it, wait for it…
we’re having a reflection session, eating ice cream, and watching a movie in the common room.
stoked for greatness, and paz,
**freakin-nican fun fact: POPS is the best ice cream in the world. even better when you get it in a gallon tub and chow down with 20 incredible people.
